Week commencing 20th June

 

What a busy week we have had this week from assessment week to sports day and even participating in some disability sport and art! The children have made fantastic progress this year and have all made great strides to becoming the fantastic students that we know they can be! Week commencing 13th June

It has been another fantastic, busy week of learning in Badgers class this week. The children have worked especially hard this week in preparation for assessment week next week.Take a look below at what we have been doing:

 

English

This week we have continued with ou narrative writing and have started to write the plot piints. The children have started to use direct speech and have been punctuate this correctly using different words for said. Just ask them said is DEAD.

   
 

Maths

The children have worked extremely hard in year 4 practising their times tables getting ready for the times table test next Thursday. Keep practising at home using mathsframe, TTRS and youtube songs!

   

 

Afternoon

our favourite lesson this week was PE take a look at our Fitness session below we were so tired after we all had red faces!

Week commencing 6th June

What a fantastic first week back after a well deserved half term, the children have come back settled and ready to take on their fibal half term as Badgers class!

 

Writing

The children have begun to discuss a narrative text, looking at the key features and how the author can keep the readers engaged. The children have found this really helpful and have even begun to look at these key features in texts previously learnt. 
              

 

Maths

The children have excelled themselves in maths this week looking at telling the time. They found this difficult but after lots of persevering the children are starting to grasp this concept.

    

 

Afternoon

​​​​​​​Our favourite lesson in the afternoon was science, this us where we looked at how sound travels as vibrations. We used a drum and sand to show how sound vibrates take a look below:

Week commencing 16th May

what another busy we week have had in Badgers class. The children have worked exceptionally hard in all areas if their learning espically with their writing this week. Take a look below to see what we have been upto!

 

Writing

This week the children have written a setting description on Narnia. The children have loved exploring new vocabulary and also how to use personification within their writing. The children particularly enjoyed the hands on senses lesson take a look below:

    

 

Maths

​​​​​​​This week the children have started to explore the subject area Money. The children have started to grasp the value of each coin and note, how to estimate how much money you will need to lay products and how to round money to the nearest pound. The children founding rounding particulary challenging but continued to persevere. Take a look below at our learning:

   

 

Afternoon

​​​​​​​During the afternoon we have began to explore Italy Today looking at physical features including mountains, rivers and forests. The children have enjoyed exploring Italy and learning all about the Alps that border the country. Take a look at our travel leaflets below:

Week commencing 9th May

what another busy we week have had in Badgers class. The children have worked exceptionally hard in all areas if their learning. Take a look below to see what we have been upto!

During our writing lessons this week we have been using the story 'The Lion, The Witch snd The Wardrobe" to create a narrative including tension and mystery. The children have worked extremely hard to edit, improve and publish their writing. This part of their writing journey has been extremely valuable as they have been able to spot little errors such as spelling and grammar. Take a look below at our writing:

   

 

 

Maths

In maths this week we have been looking at decimals using place value and beginning to understand the decimal points value. The children have now start to be able to use their number bind facts to 10 and 100 to make the nearest whole number take a look below at our learning:

  

 

Afternoon

​​​​​​​The lesson that the children have enjoyed the most this week has been closely linked to our reading of Howard Gayle (the first black football player for Liverpool FC). The children have began to discuss the topic racism and how they can help this to become less of an issue in the future the child have had some excellent discussion. Week commencing 2nd May

 

What a busy week we have had trying to fit everything in to 4 days after the lovely bank holiday that we all enjoyed! The children have worked extremely hard this week take a look below to see what we have been upto!

 

Writing 

 

During our writing lessons this week we have been using the story 'The Lion, The Witch snd The Wardrobe" to create a narrative including tension and mystery. The children have especially enjoyed reading the story and cant wait to find out to Edmund who has decided to betray his siblings and go and vist the white witch. TAKE A LOOK. Maths

 

Maths this week has been really tricky we have been using our knowledge of the times tables to help us to multiply 3 digit numbers by 1 digit numbers. The children have found this difficult but after lots of determination we are starting to use a method that the children like and it has had resounding results on their work. Well done year 3/4! ​​​​​​​Our favourite lesson in the afternoon was science we started the topic solid, liquid and gases as we discussed the properties of a matter and also tried to identify some gases.... you guessed it... farts(methane)! Take a look below ate our work:

Week Commencing 28th March 

 

It has been assessment week this week.  I am so proud of each and every member of our class.  Your behaviour and attitude was simply amazing.  You showed true Acorn values of excellence, determination, Courage and inspiration. Everyone has made accelerated progress in reading, Writing, SPAG and Maths.  All your hard work and commitment is showing.

              

               

 

                                                   
 

                                                               

Week commencing 21st March

The sunshine has been shining and so has our learning in Badgers class, we have been ever so busy from writing letters to learning all about the volcanic eruption in Pompeii!

 

Writing 

In writing this week we have been writing a letter to Octavia, outlining the key events that happened during the eruption of mount Vesuvius (Pompeii). The children have learnt how to format a letter and what key features are included. The children have enjoyed linking their knowledge of Pompeii and their writing skills. Maths

During our maths lessons this week we have been revisiting subtraction and looking at both pictorial and written methods. The children recently found this a struggle with 'knocking on next door' but once we started to use our place value knowledge this started to become clearer. The children's favourite maths lesson this week was when they were able to go outside and answer questions using the chalk take a look below:

Afternoon

In the afternoons this week we have been learning all about Pompeii and have written a newspaper article outlining the key events. The children have particularly enjoyed this topic and have been eager to find out more. We also made Mothers day cards to help celebrate mothers day! take a look below:

 

Week commencing 14th March

What a busy week we have had in Badgers class from starting our new class text ' escape from Pompeii' to being superheroes on red nose day. Take a look below to see how busy we have been this week!

 

Writing

This week we have started our new class text 'escape from Pompeii' the children have started to look at a recount letter WAGOLL and pick out the key details that makes this piece of writing WOW! The children have learnt all about subordinate clause and how these can be use correctly in their writing I can't wait to start writing our letters next week!

                             
  
                                              
                                    

Maths

In maths we have recapped the first of our four operations addition the children have used column method to solve a range of different questions. The children have loved using the highlighters to outline the key information in reasoning questions. This has helped them massively understand what a question is asking them to achieve. 

             

Afternoon

We continued to look at the Roman formations and how this made the Roman army so powerful in battle we even did a class assembly to explain to the other children what we had learnt take a look below at our learning and a sneak preview of our class assembly.

 

      
 

    

 

 

Week commencing 7th March

 

We have had another fantastic week in Badgers from becoming Roman soldiers to finishing our narrative of Marcus misfortunes. Firstly I would just like to share with you our curriculum leaflet outlining our aims of this half term.

 

Writing 

In writing this week we have continued with our narrative Marcus's Misfortune. The children have really enjoyed writing this using a range of writing sentence stems including; 2A, similes, tensions building, 3-eds and many more. Take a look at our work below:

    

 

      

 

Maths

continuing with decimals this week we have looked at dividing 1 digit and 2 digit numbers by both 10 and 100. Using place value charts snd our knowledge of place value to help the children have really taken to this challenge and even managed to start to look at some reasoning styled questions.

Now for year 3/4s favourite lesson this week...... We became ROMANS and we looked at what made the Roman army so successful in battle learning the the different tactics and formations that soldiers learnt to protect themselves and their leaders.  We even used iMovie to make a trailer showing our adventures take a look below:

Week commencing 28th February 

This week has been a fantastic start to the new half term. We have started new topics and started to look at new areas within our learning and as always the children have done it with a smile on their face.

 

Writing

Maths

Our favourite lesson this week in the afternoon was HISTORY as we started our new topic the romans and began to explore roman society by looking at job roles and even writing a job application. No surprise that the emperor was the favourite choice. Take a look below:

 

        

Week 22 (WC14th February)

Week commencing 7th February

 

What another fantastic but busy week we have had in Badgers class this week from starting our new writing task to having a internet safety lesson with a local police man....

 

Writing

This week during our writing we have started to look at a narrative piece using what we have read from the class text ( The Iron Man by Ted Hughes). We have been looking at dialogue and how we can use this correctly to so direct speech between characters take a look below at our learning:

 

   

 

Maths

In Maths we have been continuing learning all about fractions but more importantly this week adding and subtracting fractions greater than a whole. The children have worked extremely hard with this and even though we found it difficult to start with by the end of the week we became more confident. Look at our learning below:

  

 

 

Afternoon

Our favourite lesson in the afternoon this week was when the local policeman came in discussed online safety. This was a brilliant insight for the children into how dangerous the online world can be and I feel that the children have now been given strategies to help ensure they are being safe but as always any concerns I am happy to help! week commencing 31/1/22

 

It has been another busy week in badgers class, from writing a newspaper report about the Iron Man to building hillforts using junk modelling.

 

Writing

During writing this week we looked at the key features of a newspaper article and wrote our own explaining how Hogarth had managed to trick the Iron Man with nothing but a nail and a knife. Take a look at our learning below:

 

      
 

Maths

 

In our Maths lessons this week we started to look at Fractions and how these can be represented.... we were thta impressed with the children we even mananged to more on to equivalent fractions (thats where the fractions equal the same amount)

This week unfortunatly we have had to complete our learning remotely due to the rise of covid cases with in the class. The children have taken to this challenge and have completed lots of learning take a look below at some examples.

What a wonderful first full week back we have had take a look below to see what we have been getting up to!

 

writing 

During writing this week we have read chapter 2 of The Iron Man and have met the character Hogarth how has just discovered the Iron Man. Being inspired by this we have decided to write a diary entry from the point of view of Hogarth explaining the key events of this discovery. Take a look below at some of our ideas.

         

 

 

Maths

In Maths this week we have continued to look at multiplication but multiply 2 digit and 3 digit numbers by 1 digit numbers using a written method. The children have impressed me with their knowledge of the times tables and how this has impacted their thinking. Keep up the hard work guys because next week is division! 

 

 

Afternoon learning

Our favourite lesson this week was the science lesson we learnt all about how food digests and how it travels through our bodies. We have learnt about some vital organs and how each of these play a crucial role in digesting our food. Our favourite part was when we found out we then POO it back out! Ewwwwwwwwww!

 

 

WC 3rd Jan

 

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Year 3/4 have kicked off the new term by learning all about multiplication and division are and are beginning to multiply 2 digit numbers by 1 digit numbers. I am so impressed with how much they have remembered from last year with their recall of the times tables ! This term we are reading 'The Iron Man', which will support our writing. We cant wait to begin the Iron Age topic and see how they have evolved from our time learning about the Stone Age

 

             

6th December 2021

 

This week has been a very busy week from completing our assessments to practicing our wonderful Christmas performance. The children have made fantastic progress and have blown myself and the other teachers away with their determination and application of skills being taught. 29th November 2021

What a fun filled week we have had from beginning our ks2 nativity practice all the way to writing our stone age instructions take a look below at our learning:

During the writing lessons this week we have started to write a set of instructions based on the story how to wash a woolly mammoth. The children have taken inspiration from this and have started to write the instructions of how to wash a stone age animal weve had plenty form sabre-tooth tigers to Rhinos. I cant wait till these are finished and published next week.

 

                      
 

Maths

​​​​​​​In our maths lessons this week we have been learning to multiply and divide  by a given times table. At first the children did struggle with this concept but due to their hard work and determination they have now started to understand. Afternoon

 

In the afternoon this week we have been starting to practice our nativity learning all the songs and even some actions to help us to remember the lyrics. But before we even started all of this week looked at the history of Christmas carols and how these songs help celebrate christmas. Im sure if you ask your child about away in a manger and silent night they will be able to tell you all baout what the sing is celebrating and the history behind the lyrics. We live being detectives 

 

Week 3 (15th November)

 

Writing 

In our writing lessons this week we have been continuing our retell of the 'Stone Age Boy'. The children have split the WAGOLL into 'Plot Points'. This week we have written plot point 1,2,3 and 4. The children have really enjoyed splitting their writing up and focusing on certain areas of their writing this week was Sentence openers and verbs. Take a look below at our learning:

In Maths this week we have looked at various methods to solve addition calculations including - practical, pictorial and column method take a look at our learning below:

In science this week we looked at magnetism and what makes an object magnetic the children loved using the magnets and testing various objects around the classroom take a look below:

Week 2 ( 8th November)

 

What a lovely week of learning we have had from starting our new topic of the Stone Age to learning all about global warming and how we can play our role in stopping this.

Our favourite lesson this week in the afternoon was our climate change we enjoyed learning all about changing our lifestyle to help the environment and created amazing posters to help tell people how they can also help save the planet. Week 1 (1st November)

 

This week has been a wonderful return after our half term break. All the children have returned with a fantastic attitude and ready to learn!

Week 8 ( WC 18th October)

 

During our writing lessosn we have been reading charlie and the chocolate factory and the children have created some fantastic retells using 7 different plot points to tell the surprising story of Charlie finding the Golden ticket. Take a look below at some of our work

      

 

In our maths lesson we have been adding and subtracting 4 digit numbers and 3 digit numbers. At first we found this tricky but now we are absolutely maths wizards! Our favourite part is when Mr Brookes air drops the worksheets on the iPads we are so lucky to have them.

       

 

In the afternoon we have being learning all about forces and we have investigated the forces push and pull. In our wider curriculum we have finished our topic of the south west. We completed a mind map showing everything that we have learnt over our topic. I am sure if you ask your child a question about the South West they will give you lots of wonderful facts!
