British Values Statement
We actively promote values which we believe will prepare pupils for life in modern Britain. These are woven into assemblies, citizenship events and many more aspects of personal, social, moral and cultural development.
Our curriculum promotes:
- Democracy
- The rule of law
- Individual liberty
- Mutual respect
- Tolerance of those different faiths and beliefs
- Social, Moral, Cultural and Spiritual Development
- Rights Respecting School Award
Over the course of this year the school will be working towards achieving the Rights Respecting School Award (RRSA). This is a National award that has been supported by UNICEF and focuses on developing children’s understanding of their rights and respecting actions both in school and in within the wider community.
The aim of the award is to raise children’s awareness of how they should expect to be treated and how they should treat others. The School's positive and inclusive atmosphere ensures that pupils experience these values "in action" on a daily basis. We teach these values through our PSHE curriculum, assemblies, school council, debates and discussions.
There are 42 articles in the convention but they can be summed up as follows:
- The right to a childhood - Every child has the right to a safe childhood and the right to play
- The right to an education - Every child has the right to an education that develops their talents, personality and abilities so they can achieve their full potential
- The right to be healthy - Every child has the right to health care, clean water, nutritious food and a safe environment
- The right to be treated fairly - All children have the same rights whatever their ethnicity, gender, religion or ability
What are we doing in school?
We are proud to be a values-led school. Our own school values are aligned to fundamental British values and these are themes that run through our curriculum, our assemblies, our displays and all of our activities in school. We have seven school woodland families who work together to promote British values.
