This week, Rabbits have been learning about traditional tales.
For their Understanding of the world, children have been using traditional tales to think about the past.
Children have been exploring the differences in homes and in particular Little Red Riding Hoods cottage.
‘There was no television! The walls are really old and there’s wood on the ceiling’- Reggie
‘The Granny hasn’t got an oven; she uses a kettle on the fire to have a cup of tea’- Teddy
‘There's no electricity I don’t think!’- Amara
‘In the olden days, the people had no cars, that’s what Little Red walked to see her Granny. The cottage looks old and there’s not anything with electric’
Children designed a cottage and talked about maps using their prior knowledge to design a map to Granny’s house.
Children learned about Jack and the Beanstalk- they learned about morals and tied this into our learning of our school values.
Children thought about what decisions Jack made that were not wise.
'Jack should not have sold the cow for magic bean'- Oliver
'Jack did not listen tohis Mum and he spoke to strangers'- Poppy
'Jack went into a strangers house, that's not safe'- Ava
'Jack stole things from the Giant, then ran away and hurt the giant'- Chester
They created a wonderful piece of artwork over a couple of days using skill such as paint washing, cutting and collaging and observational drawing. They were simply wonderful.
In maths, children have been using shapes to create pictures of cottages and castles.
They have been consolidating their number work ready for end of Reception and year one transition.
