Week 34

Another brilliant week has come to an end in the fox den. The work produced has been fantastic, especially as there was bits of disruption throughout.

English

In English, we dove into the deep end with our writing, using some high class skills to produce some amazing pieces of writing. We are half way through our study of the book, which all pupils are really enjoying.

Maths

In maths, we have consolidated our multiplication skills, as well as reapplying our skills of measurement and comparison. Pupils used concrete resources to help their understanding with multiplication skills.

Afternoon Subjects

Our afternoons have been different this week due to the really warm weather. We have completed our work but ensured that we have had lots of breaks to rehydrate and cool off. Here is an example of our PE lesson, that we stayed inside for as it was too hot to be outside running around.

To summarise, it has been another brilliant week, with plenty of excellent work taking place. Well done to everyone.

Enjoy the weekend, and stay safe in the sun.

Like always, if there is anything you need please contact on Dojo.

Mr. Winfield :)

Week 33

Welcome back! Hopefully you have had a brilliant week off. Now its time to hit the ground running and focus our learning to ensure everyone is ready for Year 3.

English

This week in English we have started our learning around our new text, 'The Stone Age Boy'. We have explored and predicted what the story was going to be about prior to reading the text itself and breaking it down accordingly.

Maths

In maths, we have had a focus on division. The pupils have used concrete and pictorial methods to enhance their learning before moving to more independent tasks, including problem solving.

Afternoon Subjects

This week we have started our new learning all afternoon lessons, this includes: the stone age in history, settlements in geography, habitats in science, and drawing a character in art.

We have also looked at different verbs in Spanish.

Overall, a cracking week back. The work ethic has been fantastic throughout and the effort has been brilliant. Keep it up.

Have a fabulous weekend.

Mr. Winfield :)

Week 31

Nearly there folks. Another busy week has come to an end but everyone has still shown fantastic efforts. The learning of all pupils is starting to become embedded, which will certainly help on progression into Year 3.

English

This week in English we finally completed our independent write on 'George and the Dragon' with fantastic success. There has been some brilliant pieces of writing produced by some of the pupils which is amazing to see.

Maths

Similarly in Maths, we have consolidated knowledge on the four operations within mathematics to ensure fluency and mastery.

Week 30

My goodness gracious! What a week! But we have made it. We have completed another one of our big quizzes this week, which all foxes have done brilliant. We have also had slight changes in our routines but everyone has managed extremely well with all the changes. Only a few more big quizzes to go over the next few weeks then we can enjoy a well deserved week off.

English

This week in English, we have been disrupted a bit therefore have not completed what we wanted to complete. However, everyone has completed a fantastic plan to continue their own story about George and the Dragon. Some pupils have explored the apologetic dragon path where as some others have concluded that dragon is going to cause more carnage to the people. I'm sure you can imagine which foxes have gone down which path.

Maths

This week in maths we have continued to consolidate our learning of the four mathematical operations. This week we had a focus on multiplication and division, and also managed to squeeze in some more work on subtraction, aiming to ensure that that exchanging method in column subtraction is embedded into all pupils learning.

Afternoon Subjects

This week we have continued to learn about how we started to fly. Looking through inventors and famous people who made flying assessible for all today. This week we focused on Amelia Earhart who was the first female to fly solo from America, over the Atlantic and landed in Northern Ireland.

We have also linked both computing and science this week by exploring how we grow plants in space, and what technology we might use to help a plant grow within space. The foxes worked in partners to discuss what equipment and methods we would need to use to keep a plant alive and healthy in the International Space Station.

Week 29

Wow! What a hectic week it has been. We have been extremely busy in the fox den this week. This week has seen us start our big quizzes (SATs) and I am pleased to say that every single fox has tried their very best which is all that we could ask of them. Well done to you all!

English

This week was our final week learning about the text 'George and the Dragon'. We have analysed the story thoroughly and will be completing a new ending for the story in our independent writing next week. We also completed some role plays this week to help with understanding of the story.

Maths

This week in maths we have been consolidating our learning of the different mathematical contractions. Our focus this week was on addition and subtraction, looking at using the column method to complete the calculations in the most effective way.

Afternoon Subjects

This week's afternoon lessons have been as busy as ever. We started the week by researching about Bessie Coleman, who was the first black lady to get an international pilot license. She was a stunt pilot and unfortunately died during a plane accident. She wanted to open her own flight school, however she was unable to, due to the accident. So her friends completed this dream for her.

We have also completed research about space and the technology that is used within space, especially in the International Space Station.

On Friday, we also celebrated the King's coronation by dressing in smart clothes and having a tea party with the rest of the school in the hall.

Overall, it has been another fantastic week with lots of excitement!

Everyone enjoy the long weekend and celebrate our new King.

See you Tuesday.

Mr. Winfield and Mrs. Williams

Week 28

Another week has come and gone in the fox den, and it has been a slightly disrupted week but we have all coped exceptional well and completed a lot of brilliant work. We have done a lot of writing this week but ended the week reenacting how we would try to tackle capturing a dragon.

Maths

In maths, we have continued and completed our study of fractions as well as starting to look at the concept of time. The pupils have really understood the learning and concept of fractions, focusing on a half and a quarter primarily but some have challenged themselves to explore fractions such as a third, a fifth and a tenth.

Afternoon Subjects

As previously mentioned, this week has been a little bit chaotic, but we have still managed to do lots of interesting activities whilst we have been in the classroom. We have explored different technology used in space, such as the moon rover. The pupils used technology to control the moon rover to discover different objects within space. In science this week, we planted our sunflowers and started to look after them after learning the science behind a plant growing.

In geography this week we focused on coastlines, and the features that clarify what a coastline is. We have also looked at texture in our art lessons, looking at different textures and trying to recreate them using a variety of techniques and colours.

So overall, another fabulous week has come to an end. Next week we will start some of our big quizzes so please make sure that you get plenty of rest so we are ready for them next week.

Please enjoy your three day weekend, and see you all back at school on Tuesday.

Any issues please contact on Dojo.

Have a stunning weekend!

Mr. Winfield and Mrs. Williams :)

Week 27

Welcome back foxes! I trust you all had a splendid two weeks off celebrating Easter. It is only a couple of weeks away now from our big quizzes so we need to make sure that we are giving 110% to our learning so that we are all fully prepared. That being said, we have hit the ground running this week with our next concepts of learning in all subjects.

English

This week in English we have started to create our own story based upon the text of 'George and the Dragon' by Christopher Wormell. This book does not have much writing in it so it has been down to the pupils to create some interesting sentences about our story to ensure the reader enjoys the story. Our writing has been full of high level skills that will be used throughout the pupils school journey and it has been clear to see that some of these skills have already become embedded within their learning.

Maths

In maths we have had a focus on fractions. We have started to learn about recognising a half and a quarter and how to find a half from different shapes and numbers. It has been a pleasure to see so many pupils understand this tricky concept within the first week.

Afternoon Subjects

This week has seen the foxes start their new learning for our afternoon subjects. We have started to learn about how we learnt to fly in history and started to study about plants in science. In computing we virtually went on a tour of the International Space Station which everyone thoroughly enjoyed.

We have also explored our artistic side by using charcoal. At first, we experimented using different lines and pressures to make a collage before having a go at creating a portrait for one of our other topics; either plants, planes, coastlines or dragons.

Overall, it has been a fantastic first week back after Easter with everyone showing tremendous effort. Please keep it up.

Have a fabulous weekend, and enjoy the sun (if it decides to appear)

If you need anything then please message on Dojo.

Mr. Winfield and Mrs. Williams :)

English

This week in English we have completed our 'United Kingdom' non-chronological report. It has been a bit of a squeeze to try and fit in this piece of writing but we managed it.

Maths

This week we have had a revision week focused on addition and subtraction. We ensured that we practiced all the methods that could potentially come up in our big quizzes after half term. Some of our foxes even tried their hand at some Year 3/4 addition to really try and challenge their skills.

Afternoon Subjects

We have had some extremely busy lessons this week and experienced a lot of new things. In History, we have completed our Florence Nightingale and Edith Cavall topic. It has been a long unit of work and the pupils have thoroughly enjoyed learning about these two amazing ladies.

We have also investigated the mini beasts that are situated around the school playground. We then collated the data in two forms: a tally chart and a bar chart. We discussed which chart was easier to read and we concluded that the bar chart was the best method to compare the population of mini beasts.

For RE we celebrated the Jewish festival of Passover by having a Seder Meal. All the foxes enjoyed trying different foods for the first time and enjoyed a different experience in our afternoons.

And to finish off the term, we have created some Easter cards to celebrate the Christian Festival. We also completed an Easter Egg hunt and had hot cross buns, yum yum.

We have also attempted to play 'The Last Post' with our new PBuzz instruments but unfortunately, it did not go to plan.

Finally, it was lovely to meet the majority of you this week to talk about our foxes attainment and other matters arising. Like always, if you need anything else from ourselves at school please do get in contact and we will out things in place for them to happen.

Have a cracking weekend.

Mr. Winfield and Mrs. Jones :)

Week 8

Welcome back foxes! We have had a hectic week, starting our new units of learning in most subjects. English, Science, RE and Computing saw us start some brand new pieces of work, which the pupils have engaged with brilliantly.

English

In English we completed our final published letter of persuasion for our felt tip pens to come home. This piece of writing was based upon the story of 'The Day The Crayons Quit'. We then have started to created a character of own with a description and a drawing to match.

Maths

For maths, we have gone back to focusing on number bonds to 10, 20 and 100. The majority of the pupils have exceeded their own expectations with this unit by completing sums including 3-digit numbers.

Afternoon Subjects

As mentioned previously, we have started some new topics of learning with our afternoon subjects. We have started learning about living things and their habitats in Science and the use of technology in the world during Computing. For RE we are focusing on the sacred books this half term, and why these books are sacred to the people who believe in them.

We have also done a special PSHE lesson focusing on Bonfire safety, for the upcoming celebrations this weekend.

Keep up with the hard work everyone and enjoy the weekend!

Mr. Winfield and Mrs. Jones :)

Week 7

We have done it! Our foxes have completed their first half term, and wow! What a first half term we have had. We have completed some astonishing work, and taken on challenges that some of us never thought possible and come out the other side. This week has been no exception with our little foxes completing their first rounds of assessments with the up most professionalism, and the results have shown we are on track for a brilliant year. Well done to you all!

Afternoon Subjects

This week for our afternoon lessons, we have focused on Design and Technology and been exposed to First Aid, what do to in an emergency. The class have created some Halloween inspired sliders designers for their DT project. Whilst for First Aid, we completed role plays to show each other what we need to do if we are faced with an emergency.

The first chapter of our Year 2 story has come to an end, but we are all extremely excited to see what the next chapters have in store for us. Have a fabulous half term everyone.

See you soon!

Mr. Winfield and Mrs. Jones :)

Week 6

We have had a strange week in our fox den over the past week. We have had a few casualties this week, falling victim to the dreaded lurgy and the winter flu which has disrupted our week slightly. However, the foxes have still been able to adapt and produce some outstanding and creative work.

English

We have nearly completed our persuasive letter to ask our 'Fabulous Felt Tip Pens' to come back. They have left our classroom because they felt left out due to not many people using them for their work. We need to convince the pens to come back because we need them next week to help with our DT project.

Maths

In maths, we have completed another unit of work, with all pupils grasping the new concepts brilliantly well. We have received some outstanding praise from different teachers regarding our work ethic in maths and it is clear to see with some of the progress that pupils have made this week.

Afternoon Subjects

Our afternoon subjects have seen us extend our knowledge even more about London. We focused our attention on the landmarks within London. We completed activities which showed pupils what the landmarks are, where they are and why they are landmarks. In other lessons, our foxes have finished the Science unit of Animals including Humans with a general recap ready for an assessment next week.

Next week is our first round of assessments. It is nothing for any little to worry about, it is solely to see where each pupil is currently at with their learning.

Any questions, you know where to find us.

Have a brilliant weekend.

Mr. Winfield and Mrs. Jones :)

Week 5

We have had another extremely busy week in our fox den. We have started some new units in our English, Geography and Maths. We have also finished our Science unit of Animals including Humans which has allowed the pupils to gain a greater understanding of the human body and how to keep our bodies healthy.

English

Last week we completed our Little Red Riding Hood writing, so this week we have introduced our new book and style of writing. We will be analysing the book 'The Day The Crayons Quit'. The pupils have enjoyed watching the video of the book being read online, as well as analysing two other persuasive letters before completing the first element of our own persuasive letter.

Maths

In maths, we have mastered our understanding of recognising tens and ones through the use of base 10. We have also gained an understanding of using number lines.

Afternoon Subjects

In PSHE we have focused on our own minds and how we can calm down in circumstances that we might get angry or anxious. To do this, we completed a couple of meditation sessions to calm the pupils down and it has shown some brilliant results with the behaviour of the pupils overall. Mrs. Jones created this breath-taking page in our floor book for our meditation sessions.

Overall, another brilliant week! Keep it up foxes!

Mr. Winfield and Mrs. Jones  :)

Week 4

This week saw us complete our first piece of writing for the Year. We had to excellent examples that we have decided to share with you on here below. Well done to everyone, another brilliant week!

Mr. Winfield and Mrs. Jones :)

Week 3

Another week has flown by in our fox den! We have created some brilliants pieces of work in a variety of different subjects. We completed our 'Creation Story, books in our RE lessons, as well as gaining a deeper understanding of the life of late Queen Elizabeth II and exploring the houses that she lived in.

English

In our English lessons we have continued to look at our story of Little Red Riding Hood, and have written some outstanding paragraphs and sentences that we are going to use in our final drafts and published pieces of work next week.

Maths

In maths we have continued with our grouping and counting unit and used a variety of different techniques to ensure that all pupils grasped a real understanding of the concept.

Other Subjects

In our PSHE and Computing lessons, we focused our attentions on E-Safety to ensure that all of our little foxes stay safe whilst they re online either at school or at home.

Have a fantastic weekend, and see you all again on Monday

Mr. Winfield and Mrs. Jones :)

Week 2

Our real first week as foxes has come and gone! As a class we have started to get into the routine and rhythm of how our class days are going to look for the coming year. We have already started to produce some outstanding work, whilst learning new bits of information along the way. This week we have started our English and Maths topics which have provided a relevant challenge to all within the class, however, each little fox has braved the new learning and learnt new skills as a result.

Maths

In maths, we have started looking at counting in 1s, 2s, 5s and 10s and used both visual and concrete aids to be able to reinforce the learning of all pupils in the class.

English

We explored the Woodland around the school grounds, imagining ourselves as Little Red Riding Hood on her way through the woods within our new book. We found two fairy homes; one in a tree and one under a mushroom. This time outside allowed for our foxes to create some outstanding pieces of writing using new skills such as adjectives and alliteration.

Afternoon Subjects

This week we have started our new Science and History units of work. In Science, we are focusing on animals, their offspring and their classification groups. We had a lengthy discussion categorising animals into their correct groups, before looking at the different offsprings of some animals and matching both offspring and adults together. For our History topic we are focusing on the Monarchy and the late Queen Elizabeth II. We spoke about Monarch's past and present, as well as looking at what if takes to be a good King or Queen.

We are very proud of how well the foxes have settled into Year 2, and hope this hard working nature continues all year long.

Any questions then please contact us on dojo.

Have a fabulous weekend foxes!

Mr. Winfield and Mrs. Jones :)

Week 1

We have had a brilliant start to the year as 'Foxes'! We have created some amazing artwork both for the classroom and to bring home. This week has allowed the pupils to settle back in to the school routine after a busy summer holiday period. As a class, we have completed maths, phonics, art and D&T activities to allow the pupils to have a variety of lessons in the first week. Starting from Monday we will be following the timetable that is available on the website, and preparing the pupils to achieve their ambitions during their time in Year 2.
