How Geography is taught?
The Geography curriculum has been designed to develop children’s curiosity and fascination about the world and the people who live in it. Our Geography curriculum will provoke and answer questions about the natural and human worlds and their place within the world. Therefore, we plan opportunities to investigate and make enquiries about their local area, but also investigate different countries from across the world. This allows the children to develop a sense of who they are, their heritage and what makes their local area unique.
The curriculum allows for plenty of opportunities to develop a range of investigation and problem solving skills that transfer into other curriculum areas, but also builds upon previous knowledge and skills that have been taught in previous year groups.
We follow the National Curriculum programmes of study for Geography and as a vehicle for teaching this subject we have chosen to use The Cornerstones Curriculum. Most topics, for each year group, have a geographical element, however some drive the topics.
